During the lactation period, it is crucial that sows are in optimal condition. This is directly linked to the way in which feed is provided. Accurate feed distribution is essential both for the sows themselves and for the health and growth of the piglets. Sow feeder variants
The VERBA sow feeder is available in various models, including the ZV type (for pellets and crumbs) and the ZVC type (for pellets, crumbs and meal). These sow feeding systems are designed to meet the specific needs of each farrowing pen, with a focus on bespoke feeding for sows. The calm feeding experience significantly improves working conditions in the barn, whilst allowing sows to extend their feeding time without feed wastage before or during farrowing.
The ZVV and ZVVC sow feeder models are designed for installation at the front (aisle side) of the farrowing pen. For the ZVV and ZVVC models, the sow trough must protrude at least 70 mm from the front of the farrowing pen. This Stainless steel sow troughs We also manufacture these and can supply them to you.
The ZVA (pellets and crumbs) and ZVAC (pellets, crumbs and meal) sow feed dispensers are designed to be hung up in the farrowing pen. These ZVA dispensers are the best-selling models as they are the most common type.
Sow feeder mechanism available separately
We also sell the mechanism from the sow feeder separately as the ZVD15 valve. This stainless steel sow valve can handle all types of dry feed. You can hang your (transparent) feed chute inside this valve, which you can then use as a storage hopper for the sows’ feed. Thanks to the flap mechanism, the sow can help herself to feed with just a slight movement of the flap. It is a very robust and cost-effective method of feeding in the farrowing pen and works exceptionally well. The ZVD sow feeder can also be fitted with an optional stainless steel lid to cover the unit neatly. Furthermore, this prevents, as far as possible, moisture from outside or the sow’s saliva from entering the ZVD valve.
Also for straw pellets and alfalfa
The ZVAC37 Sow feeders are also ideal for pen enrichment and are approved for feeding straw pellets under the German animal welfare initiative (ITW). Straw pellets made from alfalfa or straw are increasingly being used as roughage because the pigs enjoy eating them. Furthermore, straw has a positive effect on the gut. This distraction also largely prevents tail-biting. With the ZVAC sow feeder, pellets with a diameter of up to 15 mm and a length of 30 mm can be dispensed in smaller quantities. The pigs push against a flap and the pellets fall out. The dispenser can be adjusted with great precision, allowing portions to be perfectly calibrated so that nothing is spilled. For slatted floors, a stainless steel trough can be fitted into which the feed falls. We can also supply a plastic floor panel for floor feeding. The feeder is largely made of stainless steel and can be used for piglets, fattening pigs and sows.
